- A substantial contribution with credible national, international or field-shaping significance.
- Public and professional standing consistent with the Academy's purposes and Code of Conduct.
- Evidence sufficient for independent due diligence and a reasoned internal decision.
Confidential route
Honorary Fellowship is not open to self-application. A public recommendation merely brings a person to the Academy's attention and does not create a formal nomination. Only an authorised internal nomination can proceed to due diligence and approval.
Due diligence and approval
- Record the distinction, public significance and authoritative evidence.
- Check identity, public record, material controversies and relevant conflicts.
- Obtain approval under the current delegation and conflicts framework.
- Issue a private invitation only after approval.
- Create and publish the appointment only after the recipient accepts it and authorises publication.
Independence and standing
Honorary Fellowship is free. A donation, sponsorship, commercial relationship or promise of publicity cannot purchase or determine an appointment. Material conflicts must be declared and managed.
No honorary post-nominal is used unless separately and formally approved. The full title is used under the current framework.
Fellowship is an Academy recognition. It is not a degree, regulated qualification, professional licence, statutory registration, public appointment, royal honour or endorsement of every statement or activity of a Fellow.
